Journal Entry – Week 1 I started this week a little bit insecure because I am new to all the students and there is not a strong rapport between the students and me. Initially, I introduced myself and they thought that I was the cooperating teacher’s son. When they heard that I was the student teacher most of them were surprised because I looked so young. Anyway, I started my first class with a strong determination so that they know that I am in charge know and that they should respect. The grade in which I am teaching is seventh grade, there are not many students in both groups, but the discipline was kind of difficult to control. During this week, students were about to finish the third academic term. I decided to finish this term by continuing with the topic that the cooperating teacher was covering. This is my journey through the depths of my mind to find out how I discovered what I wanted to do in life and why. Firstly, I am finishing my university studies in the English Language Teaching Program from the College of Education at Universidad Surcolombiana, in Colombia. Why did I decide to study to be a teacher? Well, when I choose this career back in 2015, I never thought about becoming a teacher for the rest of my life. Where is the Outrage? Critical Pedagogies in Dark Times . Personally, I want to address how very eye-opening was listening to this lecture because it gave me reasons that made me question the way I am teaching the classes at school where I work and the way I was taught back during my school years. How the education I received at school was in a very similar to the one that Dr. Giroux explained how education is conceived nowadays. He stated that education has become a pathway to the job and that schools have become training centers that measure the knowledge through a metric system. Rather than studying to find a job, it is crucial to understand and overcome the crisis that the country is immersed in. But, to reach this understanding it is necessary to engage students critically in attempts to solve these problems that affect our reality. Reflaction based on a video from Youtube about stereotypes in Latin America https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqY3nN4Et7M   Latin America is very known place to have a countless list stereotypes and even some of them are even disrespectful to some people that are part of this huge community. But how some of these stereotypes are made? Well, many of them because of the behavior of some Latin Americans on foreign lands. Some people tend to behave in a way that make others think of Latin Americans in general in that way. I would say that sadly some of these stereotypes are true but some others are kind of good.
